Trip Two: Day Two

Lotte House

Today was a windy day… terrible rain and wind and was impossible to get any shots as the tripod, camera, and possibly me (!) would blow away.

I went to the gallery and took some shots from inside, I also got some footage of the floating stones outside the gallery when the rain went off and sun came out. It cast a beautiful light and hope the footage will help with the documentary.

I travelled to BAlnakeil to the craft village to visit Lotte’s old house. The house is fantastic. It is covered in old tiles and full of colour and life. This is juxtaposition in itself, as the craft villiage is constructed from old army barracks and looks bleak and unwelcoming. Lotte mentions this area in her interview. She discusses the wonder and freedom the area gave her and how, even though full of graffiti and open sewers, Lotte found a home there. Although a lot has changed, going there and seeing the old workshop an dhow Lotte transformed it into a vibrant remarkable building, you can see her frame of mind. She created her home there through her art and expression of freedom. Although an oppressive compound of ex army barracks buildings, Lotte brought colour and life into it, literally and metaphorically.

I hope I can covey this through the footage gathered.
