Don't overlook the power of audio!! The audio for a documentary, or any film, is extremely important. It's proven to be a much more difficult task than I had previously thought to get decent songs that will work with the story.
I am looking for Gaelic music though not too cheesy and not too upbeat and pub-ish.. or boring! I like the artist Roddy Woomble and think his music will work well for some areas of the documentary. I like the scottish elements, the fact it's not too busy with instruments. It's simple and easy to listen to. His voice and the construction of the song also gives a slight edge over other types of Scottish music out there. Woomble's roots stem from the band Idlewild and I think some of the more rugged quality of his music comes across in his new, more simplistic/folky style.
I have yet to find audio for other areas... there's not as much Scottish music as I had hoped. Maybe i'm looking in the wrong places (everywhere!) or maybe i'm being too fussy. But I have to be fussy, cause nothing's fitting.
