I think i'm happy with how this final clip has turned out. It's extremely different from the initial idea and think it will fit well within the project.
By increasing the speed of the highland view and slowing the pace of the city, they seem to flow better together.
A vertical opacity feather of 75 pixels was added to the bottom mask to allow it to blend with the bottom of the footage from up north.
A vertical opacity feather of 129 pixels was added to the top of the screen to blend better with the sky as it wasn't as dark as the lower section. A tint was also added to the city scene over the sky to give the clouds more depth as they were quite grey. A simple tint of blue and yellow allowed the clouds to be deeper having more character while leaving the water section raw and unedited.
This worked as it gave a frame to the water and allowed it to be the focus point with no effects on top. By doing this, it seems to draw attention primarily to the view of the highlands. It then bewilders with the stars and city lights flowing on top.
