Applied for the Network

I applied for the workshop the Network, as I have heard great reviews and it gives hands on industry experience.

I have to propose my own tv show concept and explain why I would be a suitable candidate. I gave a brief explanation of my current set up and what I hope to achieve:

'I am currently in my honours year at university and am making a documentary based on the artist Lotte Glob. I am also making a short documentary based on drug abuse in Dundee and have many more projects lined up. I have mainly been working on my own through these projects as I come from a media based background and most of my peers at university are working on extremely different areas. This being the case, my peers and supervisors have been supportive and I am making good progress in my chosen area.

Last year I participated in two, three day workshops run by Second Light; Distribution (Baltic, Newcastle) and Screenwriting (FACT, Liverpool). This helped further my knowledge on the industry and meet people who are currently employed in the sector and other budding filmmakers like myself. The courses were extremely beneficial and through them I’ve met great people who I would like to work with in the future.

Through First Light I applied for and was granted a mentor who has given me great advice and is leading me in the right direction for securing a job in the industry.

As I am coming to the end of my honours year, it is important for me to find placements and internships in the industry. I also have plans to apply for the MA Film Directing course at Edinburgh College of Art, starting September.

I am very focused and am aware of what route I will have to take in order to secure myself a place within the TV industry. I hope to get as much experience and work as possible, and I thoroughly enjoy the challenge.'

Fingers crossed I get the placement... would be great experience. I plan to apply for as many workshops and placements as possible and hope to get some funding to progress with some of my own projects.
