While doing my case study for Maps with Gaps (Alice Nelson) I was impressed with the use of type and texture during her opening scenes.
I thought I would pick out a few statements from my interview and try to create some text to go on screen to emphasise certain parts.
I laser cute some type into card and shot it on video, I then imported it into After Effects and tried to create an effect I liked.
Although I liked the effect, it does not fit into the theme of the documentary. The text is too bold and grungy. Much too obvious and contemporary for what I am trying to achieve.
I plan to try a few more text effects to try and capture the theme of the movie. I might do this through masks and background shots, or more subtle text hidden within the scene.
I will experiemnt with various textures to see what works, what doesn't, and why.
