Making the Science of Sleep

This is a series of 3 videos in which Michel Gondry discusses the process of transforming his dreamy ideas into reality. It goes through the various stages and gives you an idea of the scale of the project.
It's nice to see his initial sketches and how he articulated his ideas to the rest of the crew... and even more impressive how they pulled it together!

I'm working on a case study of this film, and the more I find of Gondry's work, the more I love him!

He also directed Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (One of my faves!), so you get an idea of his unique style. It just amazes me how he manages to portray thoughts through visuals and structure.
He creates a flowing, coherent story with fragmented structure and visuals, creating self-doubt and a pleasant uneasiness within his films. I think a lot of his movies are about rejection and he manages to capture the anxiety and fear that comes with that particular emotion.

This ties in with my project as I am hoping to convey thoughts and imagination through visuals, narrative and structure. To understand the techniques Gondry uses in conjuring these emotions, it will enable me to utilise these findings in my own work and combine it with my own style and ideas.
I have started my case study on Science of Sleep and fear that watching one of my favourite films 1000000 times may make me hate it!! Blah!
