When editing footage, I have found the cuts to vary in exposures. Also the white balance of my shots isn't always right. With the Nikon D3100 the white balance is automatic or use preset settings which is quite limiting and it's not always possible to get the correct tone.
I found this tutorial on YouTube that I have found helpful. Although grading is a lengthy process, it gives a more professional look and provides a higher quality outcome.
